State Bank of India has rolled out its very own Virtual Card. Also known as an Electronic Card or e-card, the virtual card is a limit debit card and is valid for a period of 48 hours or till the transaction comes to a close.
The Virtual Card can be used to be make transactions online on e-commerce websites - basically at all merchants accepting Visa or Mastercards.
For State Bank of India customers that wish to create a Virtual Card to make transactions, they can follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Visit the State Bank of India Internet Banking page.
Step 2: Login using your username and password.
Step 3: Click on the "e-card" tab on the top bar.
Step 4: Once you have done that, click on "generate virtual card'.
Step 5: Now, select the account you wish to transfer money to the Virtual Card.
Step 6: Enter the amount you wish to transfer to the Virtual Card - the minimum is Rs.100 and the maximum is Rs.50,000.
Step 7: Agree to the terms and conditions by clicking on the tick box.
Step 8: Click on "Generate".
Step 9: Once you have clicked on "Generate" you will have to verify the cardholder name, debit card account number and the Virtual Card limit. Click on "back" if there is any correction to be made.
Step 10: As soon as this is done, State Bank of India will send an OTP to your registered mobile number.
Step 11: Enter the OTP and click on "confirm".
Step 12: Once that is done, the details of the Virtual debit card will be displayed on the screen - name of the account holder, Virtual debit card number, limit of the e-card, CVV and the expiry date of the card.
Step 13: One can now use the Virtual Card to make e-commerce transactions.
Since there is no limit to how many Virtual Cards a customer can create in a day, the net banking account of the customer has the option of viewing the details of the Virtual debit card. By doing this, customers will know exactly the credit limit on the card and know exactly when the card will expire or if it has expired already. To check the status of your sbi debit card, follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Visit the SBI net banking website.
Step 2: Enter your SBI net banking username and password.
Step 3: Click on the e-card tab on the top bar of the screen.
Step 4: Next, click on State Bank Virtual Card.
Step 5: Click on Virtual Card details.
Step 6: The screen will then display the card number, name of the card holder, date of issue, expiry date of the card, merchant name, limit amount, status of the card - whether it has been used or not - and the source account number.
If for some reason a customer wishes to cancel the Virtual Card, he/she can follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Visit the SBI net banking website.
Step 2: Enter your SBI net banking username and password.
Step 3: Click on the e-card tab on the top bar of the screen.
Step 4: Next, click on State Bank Virtual Card.
Step 5: Next, click on cancel Virtual Card.
Step 6: Select the Virtual card you wish to cancel and click on the "cancel" button.
Step 7: Verify if this virtual card is what you really want to cancel, if so, click on "ok".
Step 8: A confirmation message will be displayed on the screen that the virtual card has been cancelled. If there is any residual amount left in the Virtual Card, it will be credited to the account of the customer within an hour from cancellation of the card.

All State Bank of India net banking customers can create a virtual card with just a few steps.
If you have understood what Virtual Card is, you'll realise that this is not a possibility. It can be only used online to make e-commerce transactions and on merchant sites that accept Visa and Mastercard.
The maximum is thrice. If you try for the fourth time, your card will be blocked.
The money will be credited back to your account once the card is cancelled.
