How to Activate International Payments on SBI Debit Card?

Customers of State Bank of India can enable worldwide usage in just a few easy steps if they are travelling abroad and want to use their debit cards to make purchases and withdrawals in another country.

Customers of State Bank of India can allow foreign use in four different ways: through the SBI Anywhere app, through online banking, through SBI Quick Banking, and lastly through SMS.

Steps to Enable International Usage of SBI Debit Cards through SBI YONO App

Customers can follow the steps mentioned below to enable international usage for their SBI Debit Card via the SBI Yono App 

Step 1: Go to Google Play Store (Android users) or Apple App Store (Apple Users) and Download SBI YONO App on your Mobile.

Step 2: Once it is installed, Login with User ID and Password.

Step 3: In the left corner menu, click on the “Service Request” option from the menu and select Service Request option.

Step 4: Now Click on ATM/Debit Card Section under Service Request section.

Step 5: Now, Tab on the Manage Card option.

Step 6: Once you click on Manage Card Option, it will show the drop-down list containing account number and debit card number. Select them and enable the International Usage and E-Commerce (CNP) txns buttons. 

Your international usage for your SBI debit card will now be activated through the SBI Yono App.

Steps to Enable International Usage of SBI Debit Card through SBI Internet Banking

Customers can follow the steps mentioned below to enable international usage for their SBI debit card via the SBI internet banking facility: 

Step 1: Login to your SBI internet banking account using your username and password.

Step 2: Once you have logged in, click on the e-services tab.

Step 3: On the left-hand side of the screen, click on "ATM services".

Step 4: Click on the "ATM Card Limit/Channel/Usage Change" option.

Step 5: Now, choose the card number you wish to enable international usage and the channel type.

Step 6: Choose "enable CPN channel".

Step 7: Under Select service, change the usage type to international.

Step 8: Click on "submit".

By doing so, your international usage for your SBI debit card would be activated.

How to Activate International Transactions via SBI Quick Banking

Customers that do not have the internet banking facility can use the SBI Quick Banking option to activate the international usage of their card: 

Step 1: Login to your SBI Anywhere using your username and password. 

Step 2: Once you have logged in, click on the "SBI Quick" option on the bottom of your screen. 

Step 3: Under "SBI Quick", choose the "ATM cum debit card" option. 

Step 4: Now, click on the "ATM card Switch On/Off" tab. 

Step 5: Enter the last four digits of the card number which you wish to activate the international usage. 

Step 6: Choose all the other options you wish to activate and click on "submit". 

Your international usage for your SBI debit card will now be activated through the SBI Quick Banking facility.

Steps to Enable International Usage of SBI Debit Card through SMS

Another easy way of enabling your International usage of your debit card is via the SMS option:

For this, the SBI customer has to send a message to 9223966666 in the following formats - SWON POS 1234 - SWON ECOM 1234 - SWON INTL 1234. For this to be a possibility, the customer has to have his/her mobile number registered with State Bank of India.

Note: 1234 is an example of the last four digits of your debit card that you wish to enable international usage for.

  • If I do not have the app or the internet banking facility of State Bank of India, is it possible for me to do this at the bank branch holding my account?

    Yes, you can enable the international usage of your SBI debit card at the bank branch as well. Using the SBI app and the internet banking facility is just a more convenient option.

  • Will I be charged for activating the international usage on my SBI debit card?

    For the options of activating your international usage for your SBI debit card through the SBI Anywhere app and the internet banking facility, there will be no charges. However, for the SMS option, regular SMS charges will be applicable.

  • Will I be able to use my debit card domestically if I activate the international usage option?

    You will be able to use your card locally as well after activating the international usage.

  • Activating the international usage on my debit card means that I won't be charged for transactions and withdrawals abroad?

    You won't be charged as much as compared to using a domestic card abroad, but you will be charged for foreign currency conversion, and a few other charges that will be nominal.

    It depends on the type of debit card that your are using and the card associate. Check with the bank before you travel abroad.
