Jammu and Kashmir Revises Holiday Schedule
The state of Jammu and Kashmir revises holiday schedule and releases new dates for Guru Arjun Dev Ji's Martyrdom and Guru Hargobind Ji's Birthday. The updated holiday schedule of the Jammu and Kashmir Government designated 10 June 2024, as a restricted holiday for the Martyrs Day of Guru Arjun Dev Ji, which was previously observed on 16 June. Furthermore, the public holiday for the Birthday of Guru Hargobind Ji has been rescheduled to 22 June 2024 instead of the originally planned date of 5 July.
J&K administration declares holidays for five Lok Sabha seats' elections
On 1 April 2024, the Jammu and Kashmir government declared public holidays on the dates of the five parliamentary constituencies in the union territory. The General Administration Department (GAD) has issued an order stating that the government has announced the holidays in accordance with the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The order states that the Lok Sabha constituencies of Udhampur (19 April 2024), Jammu (26 April 2024), Anantnag-Rajouri (7 May 2024), Srinagar (13 May 2024), and Baramulla (20 May 2024) will all observe holidays.
According to the order, everyone who resides in a constituency, registers as an elector, and works as a casual worker or in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or other organisation is eligible to receive a paid holiday on election day.
